The Weekend Menu

Welcome to the latest edition of The Weekend Menu, presented by St. Lawrence Grill Works.

The final batch of spatula prototypes should be arriving this week, the website is under construction with just a few last adjustments to be made, and we are excited to go live soon. As the weather cools off, we are getting fired up.

Here are a few things worth checking out this weekend:

  1. Fire Starter — If a jet engine and hair dryer had a baby, this is what it would look like. Over the years I’ve tried all sorts of different tools to get the grill going. This is by far the fastest. Within a few minutes you can have a roaring fire ready to cook on.

  2. Lump Charcoal — A major upgrade from the charcoal briquettes you may be used to. Lump charcoal is made from chunks of wood and not sawdust glued together. It can burn hotter and impart a better flavor that briquettes.

  3. Make Your Own Hot Sauce — Sean Evans is the host of Hot Ones, an interview series that has celebrities of all sorts eat progressively hotter and hotter chicken wings as they are peppered with genuinely thoughtful questions. I’ve toyed with the idea of hosting a party where guests try the same hot sauces as they use in the video. Oddly, everyone I suggest it to says they’d rather not participate. In this video Evans breaks down how to make hot sauce at home.

  4. “If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen.” —Harry S. Truman
