The Weekend Menu

Feast of St. Lawrence

Happy Feast of Saint Lawrence and welcome to the latest edition of The Weekend Menu, presented by St. Lawrence Grill Works.

Today is the feast of St. Lawrence — a day to remember an early Christian martyr who had a strong devotion to the Lord and a sense of humor. For those who aren’t familiar with the story, St. Lawrence was a third century deacon in Rome during persecution of the church under the the Emperor Valerian. According to tradition, Lawrence was sentenced to death by being grilled over a fire because of his faith. Even as he suffered a painful death he was still cracking jokes. We love and respect him and want to do him proud with our company that is named for him.

Each day we are getting closer to having tools and merchandise available for you to purchase. Our manufacturing partners have been doing amazing work with taking our design and turning it into a reality. We will have more info on these cool guys in an upcoming post. The second iteration of the prototype spatula is in the works right now.

Here are a few things worth checking out:

  1. St. Lawrence Article — For anyone who wants to do a deeper dive into the story of this holy man.

  2. Dining with the Saints — This book lays out special meals to celebrate feast days throughout the year.

  3. Cowboy Steak Cooking — Some celebrate this day by having cold cuts, others go the opposite direction and grill steaks. We are in the latter camp. This video from Cowboy Kent Rollins runs through how to grill the perfect steak.

  4. “Turn me over, I’m done on this side.” - St. Lawrence
