The Weekend Menu

My Old Kentucky Home

Welcome to the latest edition of The Weekend Menu, presented by St. Lawrence Grill Works.

Earlier this week I had the privilege of spending time with our manufacturing partners, Jimmy and Liam. It was a blast to try my hand at blacksmithing and see how they are honing in the production process. We’ve got prototypes in hand, and they are gearing up for the first production run.

Here are a few things worth checking out this weekend:

  1. Look and See — Wendell Berry is an incredible writer/poet/farmer, and his book, Jayber Crow, is one of my favorite novels. In his writing, he regularly comes back to themes like connection to the land and community. This documentary explores his life and work.

  2. The Story of a DIY Cabin — If Wendell Berry has you thinking of leaving the big city behind, check this story out. Two friends take on a project that pushes them to their limits as they build an off grid cabin.

  3. Hot Brown Sandwich — This variation of an open faced sandwich is named for the Brown Hotel in Louisville and is a classic of Kentucky cuisine.

  4. “If you don’t know where you’re from, you’ll have a hard time saying where you’re going.” — Wendell Berry
